Problem

The container industry faces complex challenges related to global exporting and importing, often difficult to understand for a general audience. Communicating these intricate issues effectively through a publication, while maintaining engagement and clarity, is a key challenge.

Goal

The goal of this publication is to use visual storytelling, typography, and graphic elements to simplify and highlight the challenges within the container industry. The design aims to make these complexities more accessible to a broad audience, creating a clear, compelling narrative that informs and engages readers about the struggles and intricacies of global trade.

Ideation Research & Inspiration

Inspiration

I was initially inspired by the textures and history of shipping containers, which led me to create an ideation board on Mural. I gathered colors, textures, and historical references related to shipping containers to brainstorm and develop a visual approach. This research helped me understand the industrial aesthetic and complexity of the subject, allowing me to effectively translate these elements into the design and visually represent the challenges within the container industry.

Typography

The typeface I chose for this project was DIN, as its geometric structure aligns well with the industrial aesthetic of shipping containers. The clean, precise lines of DIN echo the functional and utilitarian nature of the containers, making it a fitting choice to reinforce the visual identity of the publication and enhance the overall design.4o mini

Color Choices

The color choice for this project was straightforward, as I directly color-picked from the actual colors of shipping containers. This allowed me to stay true to the industrial aesthetic and create a cohesive design that visually aligns with the subject matter, using authentic tones that represent the container industry.
