Ideation Research & Inspiration

Ideation

The ideation and concept development phase of Marble Migration focused on crafting a card game that reflects the unpredictability of the immigration process, particularly the challenges of navigating documentation. To ensure the game was accessible and engaging, we built on the familiar mechanics of Go Fish, incorporating a simple matching system. This approach allows players to easily grasp the gameplay while experiencing the uncertainty and chance that immigrants often face during the documentation process.

Inspiration

For visual inspiration, mood boards featuring various card game designs were curated on Pinterest. This helped in exploring diverse styles, layouts, and aesthetics to inform the overall design direction of Marble Migration.

the process of

Design and Prototyping

Low fedlity prototyping

Before designing the final cards, I created low-fidelity, pen-and-paper prototypes to ensure the gameplay mechanics made sense. These early versions included all the content and questions, allowing me to playtest the game with classmates and friends. This process helped refine the gameplay and content based on real feedback.

Typography

For typography, I chose Neue Haas Grotesk, a modern sans-serif typeface that ensures clear readability—an essential feature for a game where players need to quickly grasp the information on each card.

Color Choices

For the color choices, I drew inspiration from the natural hues of marble, crafting gradients with overlapping colors and a subtle blur effect. This technique added depth and visual intrigue, reflecting the layered complexity of the game's theme. The result was a series of vibrant marble-inspired visuals, which were seamlessly integrated into the card designs to enhance both aesthetic appeal and thematic cohesion.
